Next Start: 2009 Yukon Quest

Following another 34th place in the 2008 Iditarod, Scott is anxious to get his team back on the racing trail and prove that his team is ready to be a contender. Scott was as high as 6th place early and was in 18th place near the midway point in last year's race. His strategy of dropping bigger, yet slower dogs after crossing the Alaskan Range helped increase his overall speed, but decreased the power needed to keep up with larger, stronger teams. This year's strategy is to be bigger and stronger, with more practice miles.

Scott and the team are now settled in Willow, AK, not far from the Iditarod trailhead. He has built a cabin and kennel on 30 acres there to be his new base of operation for the upcoming racing season.

One decision he has already made is to race the Yukon Quest. This race at the "top of the world" is a grueling 1000 miles from Fairbanks, Alaska to Whitehorse in Canada's Yukon Territory. In 2009, the race will begin on February the 14th. For more info, go to www.yukonquest.com.

Yukon Quest

Scott has enough experience on the Iditarod trail that he feels his team could be a contender in the Quest. What has not been decided yet, is whether this will be a warm up for the 2009 Iditarod or will be our team's big race for the year. That will depend on you.

Last year, the team spent over $17,000 on the Iditarod effort. This money came largely from Yukon Quest map...click for a larger versionsponsors like you. We have secured some additional corporate sponsors this year, but most of our money comes in small amounts from friends, family, dog lovers, spectators, and friends of dog sledding just like you. A similar effort will be required for this year's Yukon Quest and we again look to you for support.

Sponsorship is easy! Checks can be made out to Warm Springs Kennels and sent to WSK Racing, PO Box 267, Willow, AK  99688.
